Not a play toy!Oct 12, 2008
This is a well executed, highly detailed, diecast scale model. It is made to be exibited with pride, and should be displayed in a clear case or other enclosure to keep dust off, but NOT played with by some child. If you find one for $9 as another reviewer stated, be assured that it will be of a smaller scale (probably 1:43), and much less detailed. My biggest complaint is in the use of plastic instead of metal for many of the small details. I only gave it 1 star for durability because it is not durable, with many small plastic detail parts to break off if mishandled, but then it is not meant to be played with, just looked at. In the case of this particular fire engine I have noticed that many online sellers will have a photo of the real fire engine on their site to represent this diecast model. To me that is unethical! Photos of the real thing imply you will get some details that are shown in the photos, but are not actually included on this model. For example, the replica lacks the small chains that serve to keep the pump outlet/inlet covers from being separated from the fire engine, the gold-leaf detail on the pump, and a bit of the wheel spoke decoration. Also, the photo of the real thing will not show the small sprue attachment blemish on the front of the chromed vertical tank that is mounted on the front top of the pump of the replica. Note also that some unethical sellers will charge a somewhat reasonable price for this item, then tack on an outlandish shipping charge in order to bleed us for a few extra dollars. Well, that about covers it. Sorry about getting on my soapbox at the end. In spite of all I have said, this is one breathtakingly beautiful diecast replica and no fire apparatus collection is complete without this red and white version, or the all red "Baltimore" version, or both!

My son has a firetruck themed bedroom. This classic firetruck was purchased for display on his bookshelf. I purchased a couple and they seem to be quality products with nice packaging, perfect for gift giving. It looks expensive, like the original almost $50.00 price, not the $9.00 I paid for this firetruck. Nice details on the truck including ladders.
