Excellent for very young model buildersAug 30, 2009
By Jerry Saperstein
My grandson developed an interest in model building after we visited a nearby military museum. He recently discovered little green army men.
I looked for something simply that wouldn't overwhelm him with dozens or hundreds of small parts, didn't involve glue or painting, but still provided something of the "model making experience".
The InAir E-Z Build models are the cat's meow. I bought him one of their aircraft models, an SR-71 which I reviewed elsewhere, and this M-16 half-track mounting a quad .50. These vehicles were used in an anti-aircraft and sometimes anti-personnel roles in WWII and especially in the anti-personnel role in Korea.
The E-Z Build kits are really well thought out. Intended for younger kids, they have enough parts to make it interesting and aren't so simple minded as to present no challenge to building, though they do go together quickly.
This model consists of eight parts. The molded detail is surprisingly good. Details like Jerry Cans are included as are shovels and cables on the sides. Screws are used to attached the pieces and small hands find useful work in putting things together.
In the end, the young modeler has not only an accurate reproduction of a WWII combat vehicle, but a reasonably durable plaything as well. Sad to say that E-Z Build has only four models in their Classic Armour series at the moment. Hopefully they will be adding more in the future. These are great kits for the youthful modeler who is just starting out.
