Doesn't work at Night!!Oct 12, 2011
By Little Book Worm I ordered this toy for my children who were interested in looking at the stars and planets they are studying in school. I didn't think I needed a very expensive one since they are only in Kindergarten and Second Grade. Both of my children worked hard to earn this toy.
They were both very excited to open the package. It was easy to set up and all of the parts were simple to adjust. We set it up to look at something across the back yard and everyone was excited to try focusing and viewing. Unfortunately, there is no correction lens, so everything comes out backwards! I was willing to overlook this since they were most interested in viewing the stars anyway.
We set it up for night view, kept our fingers crossed for a cloudless sky, and went out before bed to try out our new toy!!! Unfortunately, it simply doesn't work at night. The scope doesn't allow enough light in to see anything. Nothing, nada, zip, zilcho. Both of my children were extremely frustrated by this. My daughter was angry enough to ask me to write this review so that no one else makes this mistake and orders this scope thinking they can view the night sky. We think it might be possible to see a full moon (maybe) because of all of the light that produces, but that's about it.
We are extremely disappointed and mad (according to my daughter who is helping me write this review).
Be ware: this toy will work (backwards) for daytime viewing, but we're getting NOTHING at night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not useful for viewing landscapes or birds etcJan 07, 2009
By Anthony Carew This telescope is for astronimical/star gazing use only!
They 'cheaped out' and omitted a correction lens in this telescope. Consequently anything that you view will be Inverted and Back to front!
This is genually ok if all you are looking at are star consellations, but won't work at all for looking at nature, trees, birds etc.
As an aside, the tripod is very small as well.
This is *not* a good gift for children under ~10

By Leslie A ALdag Purchased as a Christmas gift, this was just right for my 7 year old nephew to look at the night sky. He's already taken it on a camping trip.
Durable as tissue paperDec 31, 2011
By Kurt Young purchased this telescope for a son who is getting into science and technology. He was able to use it for about 5 minutes before it no longer worked right. Don't wast your time and money.
