1Redbox Marble RunJan 01, 2009
By P. Ruston
Our 4 and 2 yr old have played with Discovery Toys Marble Works at my aunt's house and were begging for a marble game. We found the 55-piece Redbox Marble Run (box labeled no.23641) on Christmas toy clearance and decided to take a chance. Unfortunately, the pieces don't stay together very well--they pop apart when the kids play with the game and some pieces don't fit tight enough to stay together. I put the set together as pictured and then taped all the pieces so that it wouldn't come apart. With the marble run taped together it played fairly well. There are two pieces with spinning attachments that spin when marbles go down the track--those pieces are not attached in any way and sit there simply by gravity; they sometimes get knocked off by marbles rolling past or definitely fall off when the set is tipped over. The 10 marbles that come with the set are about 9/16 inch which is just smaller than the standard 5/8 marbles--we don't have any standard marbles yet but I think that they may be able to be used with the set.

When we play with the Discovery Toys MarbleWorks we can take the set apart and put it up again in a different configuration to give some variety. Today I took off the tape (which we had on for a week) and attempted to take the set apart and put it back together with my two boys--what a disaster. They wanted to put marbles on it but without it being taped together it kept popping apart and falling down. I'll try to rearrange the set when they're asleep and tape it together again.

I've ordered the more expensive Discovery Toys MarbleWorks and we'll be throwing this set away when it arrives.

Somewhat of a house of cards. See how far you can get without losing the whole thing. But once you get the knack it's really cool. The marbles go through the track easy and the spinner sections are cool. Colors of the pieces may vary so use the box as a guide not a roadmap. We've had a lot of fun building layouts and competing with each other. Great family activity!

I have an old Marbleworks set from the 80's & my kids LOVE it. I bought this as a gift to add onto the set or so they can make two big tracks but this one is lacking the quality the one from the 80's has. Falls apart soooooo easily that even I got frustrated trying to put it together! The propeller pieces fall off & will be lost in no time in our house. Might pack this up & send it to Good Will. :(

1PURE GARBAGE!Apr 18, 2010

Seriously, this toy was tossed within minutes of assembly. The box cover looks appealing enough, but unfortunately doesn't represent accurately what is exactly inside, Once assembled, it falls apart if you breathe too hard on it. I would be embarrassed to ever gift it.
Besides having missing pieces, the balls fail to roll well enough to actually use this toy. Do not buy!!

4Son loves this toyNov 22, 2009

We bought this toy for our 3 year old boy, and he loves it, because it does come apart easily he can put it together. Our one came with smallish plastic marbles which are lightweight and do not knock anything off. I do believe however that the wooden ones would be more sturdy, but our boy plays with his marble run all the time and we are happy with it. I actually would like to more pieces.
