Interesting Facts The F/A-18 is a supersonic carrier-capable strike fighter jet, designed by the US Navy and Marine Corps to attack both ground and aerial targets. Full scale production started on January 22,1976 with the first flight on November 18, 1978. It is used primarily for fighter escort, fleet air defense and reconnaissance. Later developments improved the capability of night attacks. This aircraft has been chosen by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels flying team since 1986.
