Review based on the similar WowToyz Classic Train Set - Diesel Engine with cargo containers
Pros:
You get enough track for the train to go around a tree
Relatively durable
The mechanism that drives the locomotive is much closer to how a "real" locomotive would work, so I gave it educational points for that.
The whistle and engine sounds are rather realistic
Cons:
You only have one option to arrange this set - a circle.
It will suck down batteries pretty nicely
Honestly, I wans't expecting much from this purchase based on the price (about twelve bucks) - I just wanted something that would motor around the tree on Christmas morning. But my wife thought we shouldn't wait to put it up, and let our almost-three-year-old son play with it during the weeks leading up. The train and cargo cars are very light, but this train set is surprisingly durable! I wouldn't suggest trying to test the durability of the track connections - once I assembled it, it is staying assembled until we take it down and put it away for next year, but my son has put this engine through the ringer pretty well, and it has really held up! We've had this train set up and running now for two solid weeks, and our son has pretty much abused it, but it keeps going, and going, and going...
NOte: this seems to be the exact same set sold with a carrying case for eight dollars more. WowToyz Classic Train Set with Carry Case- Steam Engine with Tanker Personally, I saved the eight bucks and will find an old shoebox to store this in for the next 11 months.

This toy is OK. I got it for my four year old Christmas of 2009. He was too young for a more expensive set. The set is not the best quality. Ours still works, BUT it sucks through battery like crazy AND the train sounds it makes are soooo loud, it jars your brain. In fact, it is such an annoying sound, that my husband and I have tucked the set away, hoping our son will forget about it. My son enjoyed the set, but grew bored of it relatively quickly. I would say that this would be an appropriate set for a younger child who may be too young to use a more expensive set, BUT beware that it is cheaply made and if you can find some way to make the sound stop (or decrease the volume), it wouldn't be too bad. I'm glad we did not pay too much for it. I would say it's more appropriate as a stocking stuffer, than a, "big" gift for under the tree.

We bought this toy for our 4 year old. He loved it so much he would let it run and he would lay down next to it and watch it. It lasted for two days and would not run anymore. Also it goes through batteries very frequently.
